Lunch at Yunji Mountain and Water Courtyard: A Rustic Retreat
Our return trip from Xinfeng County included a delightful stop for lunch at the Yunji Mountain and Water Courtyard, a charming spot that beautifully blends simple aesthetics with local tradition.
A Historic and Rustic Setting
The courtyard immediately established a historic atmosphere. The entrance featured a proud earthen brick building, marked by a classic red flag sign optimistically proclaiming "Get Rich" in Chinese. Stepping inside, the regional culinary culture was evident, with Cantonese cured meats hanging profusely from the ceiling of another building.
The architecture framed the surrounding nature; a striking image of a tile roof with a tree growing against a clear blue sky captured the meeting of the man-made and the natural. Inside the restaurant, a quiet room offered tranquility, with a simple table positioned by a window.
The courtyard's rustic charm was everywhere. Functional aesthetics were on display with a wall adorned with a collection of dustpans. A stone path led toward the exit, passing a large round stone grinder resting on a wooden table, hinting at traditional kitchen methods.
Light, Shadow, and Warm Flavors
Light and shadow played across the space, adding depth to the scene. The sharp shadow of the tile roofs framed the view from a window in an earthen wall, while a cool, shadowed aisle inside the restaurant offered a welcome break from the bright exterior.
Lunch was a warm and savory experience. We enjoyed a steaming pan of ribs, a rich bowl of duck meat, and a healthy portion of green mustard vegetable.
Finally, the vivid, clear blue sky provided a stunning backdrop, visible against multiple views of the restaurant’s tile roof, concluding a memorable interlude at the Yunji Mountain and Water Courtyard before we continued our road trip.
