A Quick Trip to Huizhou: History, Nature, and City Sights

My recent day trip to Huizhou was a manageable 1.5-hour drive from home, providing a wonderful chance to photograph the city's unique mix of history and natural scenery. The journey spanned the Dongjiang River, the tranquil Xihu Lake, and the charming Shuidong Street.

Dongjiang River and Waterfront Views

The trip started at the Dongjiang River, where I captured scenes of waterfront life. I photographed two separate instances of boats docked on the river, each framed by a bridge in the background, showcasing the river's central role in the city.

Xihu Lake: Nature and Ancient Architecture

Before heading to the main attraction, a quiet moment was captured: an orange cat resting on the ground next to a bench. Upon arrival, Huizhou Xihu Lake was bustling with activity, featuring numerous boats and blooming lotus flowers. The exploration of the lake's grounds revealed a blend of nature and architecture. I photographed a stone lion statue standing guard in front of a temple. Close-ups highlighted the surrounding foliage, including a spider plant and a green cypress tree, both set against a blurred background. The intermingling of natural beauty and history continued with a green lotus pod leaf and a vibrant pink lotus flower, both beautifully set against the backdrop of a temple.

Downtown Huizhou and Shuidong Street

Moving into the city's heart, I documented the history of Huizhou downtown with a street view featuring many old buildings. Amidst the older structures, modern signage stood out, including a blue and white street sign and a distinct blue restaurant door with a yellow sign for "Chang Restaurant" in Chinese.

The day concluded at Shuidong Street. Striking views included a red sign on a pole for "New East Bridge" in Chinese with a tall tower behind it, followed by a panoramic view of a bridge, a tall tower, and a cloudy gray sky. Shuidong Street itself felt inviting, marked by a red and yellow "I Love Huizhou" sign in Chinese, and anchored by a tall tower with a stele at the base marking "Shuidong Street" in Chinese—a perfect end to an immersive day trip.
