Better Ole and Luen Wo Market: Street Photography on the Sony A6700

Introduction

Seeking shelter from the cloudy Saturday, in Sheung Shui, New Territories, Hong Kong, we began our day with lunch at Better Ole restaurant.

The restaurant table offered a simple setting: a menu and three glasses of water. A nearby "cocktail" sign and a blur of blue glass hinted at available drinks. A neat place setting, complete with a knife and fork on the tablecloth, featured another glass of water reflecting the light. I chose the familiar, rich red Borsch soup. The interior offered subtle Christmas cheer, with a festive ribbon on a corner tree and a decoration visible in a picture.

After lunch, we explored outside. The first sight was a white building with a prominent black sign: "LUEN WO MARKET."

The market was a center of traditional Hong Kong life. Inside, a small Christmas tree added a seasonal element to one room. We passed another small room where the classic martial arts drama, "The Return of the Condor Heroes," was playing on TV. A food stand was also heavily laden with various food items.

Stepping back out, our attention was briefly drawn to a building with a noticeable red sign before we returned to the market's core: the fresh food section. A sign marked a vibrant display of fish, including a striking bunch of red ones. A tray of fishes awaited purchase, with a knife ready on a cutting board nearby.

Our day concluded as we departed, marked by a quintessential Hong Kong street scene: a green taxi parked on the roadside.
