Xuedong Village: A Deeper Exploration

Our return to Xuedong Village offered a chance to move beyond the initial glimpse we had in April and truly explore the heart of this rural haven beneath Yunji Mountain.

The village's entrance was clearly marked by a simple sign that says the name of the Xuedong Village under Yunji Mountain. Once inside, evidence of local life quickly emerged. We spotted a blue mini car with the Yunji mountain in the background, a common sight against the grand natural backdrop, and another small car parked in the village.

The waterways are central to Xuedong's tranquility and daily life. We found a serene scene by the river running through a small village with some silver grass in the fore. Crossing a small bridge, we noted the contrast of the yellow and black bridge fence against the natural surroundings. Later, we paused for a view of the creek from a bridge in the village, observed a stream of water with lots of cobblestones, and saw a lively stream of water with lots of ducks swimming, with the intimate scale of a small stream with ducks and a house in the background. A sign on a pole indicated local heritage, pointing to the "Bridge of Liang Clan".

The majestic Yunji Mountain is a constant, dominating presence. It framed a rice field with a building and mountains in the background and was visible in the distance with rice fields in the fore. It even served as a backdrop for a house with the Yunji mountain in the background and a bird is perched on the powerline with the Yunji mountain in the background.

Life in Xuedong moves at a quiet, authentic pace. We observed a truck parked in a field of tall grass and admired the humble charm of a small house with bamboos in the front. As our exploration concluded, we noted a tree with no leaves and lots of yellow fruits, a splash of seasonal color, before finally reaching a stream running through a lush green forest.
