Yaobu Ancient Town: A Photographic Journey Through Liuzhou's History and River Life

The visit to Ancient Yaobu Town in downtown Liuzhou began on a cloudy afternoon.

Arrival and Initial Impressions

The sound of machinery marked the start of the afternoon, symbolized by a close-up image of a red and white motorcycle. The cityscape of Liuzhou was visible, with a tall red brick building silhouetted against the overcast sky.

Exploring the Ancient Town

As we ventured deeper, the town’s daily life unfolded in subtle details. A group of koi fish moved languidly in a pond, their motion a counterpoint to the still water. The town officially welcomed us with a sign reading "Welcome to Yaobu Town" displayed on a building, a message that was immediately repeated elsewhere against the gray sky.

Riverside and Historic Views

Down by the Liu River, a boat was spotted cruising near a bridge. The historic skyline featured a tower advertising "Old Lemon Tea" in Chinese, its base decorated with a string of lanterns. A second, distant tower stood sentinel atop a mountain, providing a broad view of the entire area.

Character and Details

The town's unique character was evident in small scenes: a blue and white striped umbrella provided shade beside a blue door and a row of yellow light bulbs. A tall metal sign officially announced the destination: "Yaobu Ancient Town" in Chinese.

Nature and Modern Intersections

Nature added its own vibrant touch, captured in a close-up of a red flower with green leaves. History and modernity converged, notably on a wall covered in graffiti proclaiming "Yaobu Time" in Chinese. On the river, a solitary kayaker paddled, framed by a bridge and a tall building in the distance.

Reflecting on the Liu River

The view of the Liu River was compelling, dominated by a bridge and a tall building. A boat was later seen passing under a bridge. Life persisted even in unlikely places, such as a plant growing out of a rock in the water. Cautionary signs were a reminder of the river’s risks, with one on a fence near the Liu River reading "Dangerous" in Chinese.
