Winter Morning Ride: Stillness Captured
On a crisp winter morning in Qingxi (21 November 2025), I set out on my Specialized Allez Sport, the iPhone 17's dual wide lens (5.96mm) prepared to catch the light with a Fuji Superia 200 feel.
The ride was a study in stillness. The streets, chilled by the night, guided me past hushed architecture. Early on, a white building with red writing on it created a vivid contrast against the gray sky.
As the path narrowed, the scenery shifted to a narrative of natural reclamation. Abandoned machinery dotted the landscape: a rusty old machine was sitting in the grass, its function forgotten; nearby, a rusted out old truck sitting in a field appeared to be sinking back into the earth. Even the minor details were poignant, like a rusty old fire hydra with a bunch of flowers on it, a small monument to the passage of time.
Eventually, familiar human touches reappeared. I briefly stopped and had my bicycle parked in front of a building, and then, near the end of the journey, a whimsical sight: a statue of a man on a bicycle, permanently paused in his own timeless ride. The cold, beautiful morning was perfectly preserved in the memory captured by the iPhone 17.
