Beijing Alleyways in November Sun: A Photography Walk
The sprawling city of Beijing welcomed my first November visit with a brilliantly clear blue sky. Stepping from the hotel into the narrow alleys, the air was crisp, carrying the quiet hum of local life. The sky, an unbroken canvas of deep blue, was a welcome sight.
The bright sunlight sharpened every detail. Looking up, a majestic high-rise view contrasted sharply with the intimate, grounded scale of the streets below.
The remnants of autumn were beautifully illuminated. I passed a tree with vibrant orange leaves, a splash of warmth against the cool air, and another cheerful one with yellow leaves. Further down the narrow street, a solitary tree with no leaves stood out, its intricate branches silhouetted against the sky. I even spotted a tree still bearing fruit.
These old alleys offered quiet glimpses into daily routines. A cheerful yellow car was parked on the side, and a brief scene of industry unfolded as a man put a box into the back of a van. I encountered a person walking a dog, a touch of domesticity, and later noticed another dog sitting among the fallen leaves.
My walk revealed walls steeped in history, like the deep, rustic texture of a red brick wall contrasting with the modern world just beyond. Small, traditional details also caught my eye—a vibrant red lantern hanging from a building, seeming to guard the entrance. High above, a solitary bird perched on a roof, and I caught sight of a clock on a building framed by a tree. The streets themselves, lined with buildings and occasionally a car, felt quietly alive.
The sunlight was perfect for capturing these moments—the feeling of a quiet, sunny day in the heart of a grand, ancient city.
