Discovering the Historic Houses of Mabang, Tengchong
On September 19, 2025, during our exploration of Tengchong, we discovered the historic Mabang houses, located surprisingly near the bustling morning market. This created a strong contrast between the past's quiet dignity and contemporary commerce's chaos.
Using a Sony A6700 with a "film" Creative Style, our photographic mission documented the structures' rich, weathered Chinese architecture. Key features included Stone walls, many roughly hewn and covered in moss and lichen, and delicate Twig details on the rooflines. The Blue, Daytime Sky framed the eaves, emphasizing the structures' age, while the mid-morning light and film style retained a sense of nostalgia.
Inside, remnants of daily life offered a silent history. Heavy, dark Wood Doors with Iron latches secured the homes. The interiors held artifacts of domestic history, notably Artisan Pottery, Cookware, bakeware, and Serveware. Tea culture items, including Teapots and Kettles made from ceramic or Iron, were also documented.
The Mabang houses, part of our Yunnan road trip, provided a profound glimpse into the region's enduring material culture, where every Stone, Stoneware piece, and twisted Iron object holds history.
