Capturing Ganzhou: A Lumix Night in Jiangxi

The air hung thick with the scent of chili and something sweetly floral as I stepped off the train in Ganzhou. It was April 2025, my first time in Jiangxi, China. My small Lumix GM1, with its trusty 20mm F1.7 lens, nestled in my bag, ready to capture the night. Dinner was a fiery affair. The dishes arrived, each promising a different kind of heat, a kaleidoscope of red and orange that made my eyes water. I snapped a few photos of the vibrant dishes with my phone, but I knew the GM1 would do them justice later.

As the night deepened, I ventured out. The streets pulsed with a life of their own. Electronic signs flickered, casting a neon glow on the faces passing by. I raised my camera, focusing on a toy figurine in a shop window, then a tangle of automotive lights blurring into streaks. Each shot felt like capturing a fragment of Ganzhou's soul. The lens drank in the darkness, transforming it into pinpricks of light. I paused near a stall laden with produce, the spring flowers adding a delicate touch amidst the bustle. The city was a feast for the senses, a tapestry woven with spicy food and electric nights, all seen through the sharp, clear eye of my little Lumix.
