Longhushan Geopark: High-Altitude Plank Road
Elephant Trunk Hill, rightfully hailed as the "No. 1 Divine Elephant in the World" is more than just a rock formation; it is a geological marvel that captivates visitors with its uncanny resemblance to a colossal elephant dipping its trunk into the Li River. Its spiritual significance is deeply rooted in local folklore and adds another layer of mystique to its already impressive presence within the sprawling Longhu Mountain Geopark. Beyond this iconic landmark, the Geopark boasts a remarkable feat of engineering and a visual feast: the high-altitude plank road. This meticulously constructed pathway dramatically hugs the sheer faces of the mountains, offering an exhilarating and often vertigo-inducing experience. As one traverses this scenic route, panoramic vistas unfold, revealing a breathtaking tapestry of nature's grandeur. Towering karstic peaks pierce the sky, their rugged surfaces painted with the vibrant hues of striking red cliffs. This mineral canvas is further embellished by the verdant embrace of lush vegetation, tenacious trees clinging to improbable ledges, and cascading vines that drape down the rock faces like emerald curtains. Our two-hour hike along the entirety of this elevated path proved to be an immensely rewarding endeavor, each turn presenting a new and awe-inspiring perspective. The stunning visuals encountered during this trek were faithfully captured through the lens of my trusty Lumix GM1 camera, paired with the crisp clarity of a 20mm prime lens, aiming to preserve the intricate details and sweeping panoramas of this unforgettable landscape.
