Shanghai Summer: A GR II Urban Exploration

Introduction

Shanghai's oppressive July 3rd, 2025 heat meant sunset was the only time for a walk. With a Ricoh GR II, we captured the city, from vast high-rise urbanscapes to delicate Chinese architecture and a pagoda as dusk fell. Night brought glowing awnings, silhouetted pedestrians in the bustling metropolitan area, and iconic towers lit against the dark. Smaller details also caught the lens: weathered brick, silhouetted branches, and even a passing bus. The GR II documented Shanghai's diverse beauty, from grand scale to intimate moments, all under the unique light of a hot summer evening.
