Morning Light in Qingxi: A Slow-Paced Scroll of an Dongguan Town
The morning mist has yet to fully dissipate, but the Dongguan town of Qingxi is already slowly awakening to a leisurely rhythm. I wander through the streets and villages, capturing these ordinary yet vividly lived moments with my lens, documenting the story of one morning.
I. The Atmosphere of Human Life in the Streets and Alleys
The soft light of dawn gently bathes the town, painting the warm backdrop of its daily routine.
1. Qingxi's Flavors and Daily Life
The Warmth of Changfen (Rice Rolls): At the street corner, steaming hot changfen are handed out by the owner—this is the authentic taste that starts the day for the people of Qingxi.
The Secrets of the Eatery: Looking through the side window of the changfen shop, stacked red plastic and an old menu on a mottled wall speak of the busy-ness and history behind the delicious food.
2. Time Imprints in the Street View
A Mark of the Era: Glancing up inadvertently, an 80s-style building comes into view, its patterned glass window silently narrating the passage of time.
The Orange-Red Allure: The orange-red sign of the key-cutting shop is striking in the early morning, with countless keys hanging beneath the sign, seemingly locking up infinite stories waiting to be unlocked.
A City Landmark: The giant McDonald's logo in the distance is prominent against the blue sky, symbolizing the convergence of modern commerce and small-town life.
Unique Decoration: At the entrance of a Western restaurant, strings of hats are cleverly hung as decoration, adding a touch of exotic flair to the town.
3. Morning Warmth and Rhythm
A Moment of Rest: Beside the sidewalk, an elderly woman sits quietly resting. The huge yellow snakeskin bag beside her might hold the day's harvest or livelihood.
The Detail of Motherly Love: A mother in a bright red jacket bends over to adjust her child's socks on the electric bike—it is the warmest scene of the early morning.
The Morning Beat: Rushing pedestrians, whizzing electric bikes, and young parents pushing baby strollers collectively form a vivid portrait of the town's daily rhythm.
The Uninvited Guest: A black and white long-haired dog wanders the street, curiously sniffing the ground, searching for its morning adventure.
4. New Year's Atmosphere
The Prelude to the New Year: Red blessing banners and festive lanterns hung high in front of the shops prematurely infuse a strong flavor of the New Year.
Blessings on the Window Lattice: Red-backed, yellow-lettered chunlian (Spring Festival couplets) reading "Happy New Year" are pasted on the clothing store's glass window, brimming with beautiful anticipation for the new year.
II. Traces of Time Deep Within the Village
Turning from the town's main road into the village, the atmosphere of life becomes more simple and nostalgic.
1. Light, Shadow, and the Sedimentation of Years
Busy in the Light and Shadow: Deep in the shadow with a "No Parking" sign in the background, are the figures busy early for their livelihood—they are the true driving force of the town's morning.
The Blank Space of Life: Neatly stacked red and white Budweiser cans inside a rusty old iron frame record the unintentional "art" of leisure moments.
The Container of Time: The equally rusty corrugated iron roof, weathered by the elements, is like a container, holding the traces of the passing years.
2. Nostalgic Close-ups and Tradition
Retro Close-up: A deep green Mini Cooper is discovered at the corner of an old street, and a close-up is taken of its front right headlight, paying homage to the classic.
New Year's Flavor on the Electric Wires: Villagers hang preserved meat (la rou) on clothes hangers on the electric wires to dry—this is a unique village sight and a traditional ritual for every household preparing for the New Year.
3. A Poetic Period
The Gentleness of Fallen Blossoms: Finally, a single fallen pink kapok flower on the grass, lonely yet beautiful, draws a gentle and poetic close to this ordinary morning in Qingxi Town.
