My First Experience with the Lumix GM1

In April 2025, a photographic excursion was undertaken from Qingxi to Xinfeng, Guangdong, utilizing a Lumix GM1 camera equipped with a 20mm F1.7 lens. The journey yielded a series of images capturing various aspects of the rural environment.

A temporary cessation of travel provided an opportunity to photograph an assemblage of power lines and signage, an initial image recorded with the technical parameters of 1/500s shutter speed, ISO 200, and an aperture of F5.0. Subsequently, an image of a weathered fence was captured, its tarred patches indicative of its age and utilitarian function. The distant hills were illuminated by the morning light. Further photographic subjects included additional signage and a junction marker, each representing a distinct detail of the roadside environment. The presence of fertile soil and further signage suggested a community with a substantial agricultural foundation.

The landscape was characterized by extensive fields, exhibiting a combination of agricultural use and wetland areas. Dwellings interspersed within the vegetation were also documented. The road, a strip of asphalt, extended into the surrounding territory. Elevated terrain, covered with verdant vegetation, was also observed. The presence of yellow sow thistles provided a chromatic counterpoint to the prevailing greenery. A solitary leaf, illuminated by sunlight, was also photographed. Each image, accompanied by its respective technical specifications, served as a permanent record of a transient moment. Upon resumption of travel, the collected images functioned as a narrative of a brief, yet aesthetically significant, engagement with the rural aspects of China.
